Ibero-American Society of Neonatology (SIBEN)
This society was created very recently and is in its inception and is incorporated as a Not For Profit Public Charity in the United States. In 2004 Dr Sola wrote an Editorial on SIBEN (Ibero-American Society of Neonatology) both in English and in Spanish entitled Ibero-American Society of Neonatology: Collaborative group for the improvement of clinical practice and research in neonatology. “[Sociedad Iberoamericana de Neonatología (SIBEN): Grupo de Colaboración Para Mejorar la Clínica y la Investigación Neonatal]” in a peer reviewed Journal, Anales de Pediatría (An Pediatr (Barc), 61(5):390-392, 2004.) There, he summarized the mission, vision and goals of SIBEN. A PDF version of this article is available in Spanish and English.
SIBEN already has over 1,000 members and has become active in education, networking and databases and in developing a program for developmental assessment of infants treated in NICU and a risk for long term medical needs and developmental disabilities. Many things still need to be accomplished and if you feel you are willing to participate or collaborate in any way, please contact Dr. Sola, who as of October 2007 will be the President of this Society.
